If you are looking for a huge traffic spike for your website here is a suggestion, I found this accidentally when a buddy and I were posting articles for a dating website we ran. Your results may vary.

Digg.com, if you are not familiar with it is a social bookmarking site where users “Digg” their favorite articles for others to read, the more people who “Digg” it the higher it goes in the list. Pretty simple concept.

For this to be most effective you should have some sort of Digg.com widget / plugin on your article so users can “Digg” it while reading it. People on Digg seem to love lists, actually most readers love some kind of list and they seem to generate a lot of comments since they are usually someones opinion, and people love to voice their own opinions to agree or disagree.

If you want to get the most out of your list, try posting a controversial list, sex related lists seem to do very well, these seem to get the most response. The subject of the list we posted that got the most play was: ” Top 10 Orgasmic Position for Women “. This generated such a buzz that we got 36,000 visitors to our site in about 18 hours and produced a steady flow of traffic for well over 6 months. If I remember correctly we had about 2000+ Diggs and we had the #1 ranking on the home page for a good part of the day. Over the next couple months we had 2 more posts that hit #1 on the front page and had lots of traffic coming to the site. For over a year we were making over $100/month from Google Ads from those 3 posts.

Digg.com has an Upcoming section of the site and many user watch this to see what’s new and hot. So if you have friends that have Digg accounts its good to let them know you posted something so they can Digg it also to help get it to the top of the upcoming list as quickly as possible.

As a warning though when posting sexual related articles you do need to be a bit careful, after our third trip to the top of the list someone must have not like the articles because our website was banned from having further postings on Digg.

I should have known that when the alarm went off this morning and I thought it was for the King when actually it was for me I was going to have a bad day.

Now the King sets his alarm and hits snooze like 3 or 4 times, where as I set it and get up the minute it goes off. I had no idea that the King was staying home, he has not been feeling well and wanted to go in to see the doctor. So the damn alarm keeps going off and finally I tell him to turn that shit off then I realize that I am 15 minutes behind schedule! So here I go running around like a idot getting things together.

Once I get 4 of the kids off to school I come into my office to start work. I had downloaded a program that my company started using, but of course there is a glinch so now I have to call support. They finally get it fixed and off I am to start my day. WRONG!!!! Now one of the websites I use on a daily basis will not open for me WTF! Now at 5:45am I had decided that I was going to type up 80 files, I normally do 60 and have done up to 70 but never 80. So here I go again calling support, ok this is taking longer than expected (URGH). Ok now I am off and running again to get some work done, but now it is 1:45 pm and I have to run to the office to pick up supplies and work that my boss sent to me as RUSH work. By the time I get back home it is going on 3pm. I start pumping out the files. My hubby (nice that he is) takes the big one to work.

At 4:45 I take our son for a much needed hair cut (he is going with his father for the weekend and GOD forbid the boy doesn’t look well taken care of, this man cannot even wipe his own ass to save a soul!) Sorry lost track for a minute. Once his hair is cut we go over to pick up the foster kids. Come back home only to find out that at 7pm I have to leave to take the boy to the meeting place (again GOD forbid the boys father can come to my house to pick him up I am sure that once we go to court next Thursday things will change and he will not like it, tough shit dude), and at 8pm I have to go and pick up the big one, again thanks to the King I was spared having to see the asswipe (AKA the exhusband) and he goes and picks up the big one, I am almost done with work (YES!).

I also have to pack an overnight bag for the foster kids because this is the weekend that they spend with their older siblings(YES!) One of the twins is ragging me because she has a rash on her tush and she wants cream on it. I have to still go to the store and get marshmellows for the big one for some school project tomorrow.

My computer is buzzing like it is going to die and my fucking neighbor is having band practice and we have told him time and time again that we put our kids to bed at 8:30 during the week because they go to school. The last time he practiced it sounded like we were the ones playing the shit he plays, so I went over and pounded on his front door for about 15-20 minutes until his wife answered and she says “I told him to turn it down but he doesnt listen to me”, my response was “tell him that “I” am here and that “I” am not happy and I would appreciate the noise but turned down!” From that moment on it was fine, that is until today, the way my day has been going I will be pounding on his door again and a screaming match will take place. I mean come on, seriously how many times do we have to mention to him that his music is loud? And we have been nice about it but I think he really wants to see the bitch come out of me, and believe me it is not a pretty site. I am soooooooooooo glad that it is Friday tomorrow, and I just pray that I have a better day.

A little background to start you off.  I work at a fairly large software company in the technical support department. On any given day we take anywhere from 1300 - 2500 calls per day from people in the auto industry. 

Today we had our beginning of the year kickoff meeting which for us in the trenches is basically an hour off the phones, a welcome break.  The only thing really important to us is how big our bonuses are going to be.  We all listened to the executive talk about revenue, growth, profits, losses, etc hoping that someone would have lots of questions to try and stretch the meeting out as long as possible.

At the end of the meeting they said that they were at an outside sales conference with our customers talking about what we could do to improve business and so forth ( usual exec stuff ) when one person asked if they ever talk to the technical support staff to get their feedback on what the customers are saying and would like. DING ! DING ! DING !  What ask us pee-ons in the trenches what we think?  You know the people who are the FACE of the company, the ones that support the procuct you seem to throw together at times.  The ones that customers say are some of the best of any of our competitors.  The ones that REALLY control how your company fares.  If we do a bad job, you lose custmers. If we continue to do the top notch job we do, you get a good reputation and get customer referals and increased revenue.

Maybe they should start listening to us, we are not all mindless idiots, some of us do have ideas that are worth listening to.  Its pretty sad that someone on the OUTSIDE had to tell them that they should listen to their support staff.

I may need to do something I didn’t want to do, after seeing the results of my last two post I just may need to sell out to the reality Gods. In order to get more traffic to the website you just may see more posts about all the reality and game shows that litter the TV. You know the ones, American Idol, Survivor, Biggest Loser, Dancing With the Stars, Amazing Race, Big Brother, Deal or No Deal, 1 vs 100, The Apprentice etc…

This will only be temporary just to see how much traffic the posts will generate, after all we gotta pay the bills somehow. How hard could it be to make $10/month?
