Got a Brand New Pair

Monday, March 3rd, 2008

I finally got on the internet and ordered me a new pair of shoes, this was LONG overdue. The old pair was WORN OUT, scuffed, seams tearing and the soles had holes in them, they were wearable but not very fashionable.

I don’t buy new dress shoes that often anymore since my new job does not require it which is the main reason I dealt with them so long. But when I do I want a nice comfortable pair.  I have always worn Florsheim shoes, they look good and they are comfortable. If you get their top of the line shoes they feel like slippers when you are wearing them, but there is a cost for this, the last time I actually did buy these it was about $225. Now I have no problem dropping that kind of cash on a pair of shoes but the Queen seems to have a problem with it, so I went with a less expensive model which was about $140.

It is hard to find a store that still carries Florsheim around here so I went online to get them, of course when I did find the pair I wanted they were out of stock. I could probably have waited but I was on the site so I took another 20 minutes trying to find a second choice. I thought I had chosen the same shape of shoe with just a different pattern on them but when they arrived I immediately saw I made a mistake. Below are pics of the shoe I wanted and ultimately picked, can you tell the difference?

The difference if you didn’t notice is the toe style. The shoe I wanted has a more pointed toe, whereas the one I got is more squared off. After I got them I figured it was not that big of a deal, but after wearing them the visual difference to me is quite different. Wearing that style for most of my adult life I am not sure if like the change.

When these wear out I will go back and find the $225 pair, they are much more comfortable and they are the style I am used to. Only problem will be getting the Queen to see how spending $225 on a pair of shoes is justifiable.

Get Paid for Your Own Online Purchases

Friday, February 15th, 2008

If you have a blog or website and you purchase anything on the internet you can make money off your own purchases. It is pretty easy to do, it only take a little work and it can save / make you 100’s of dollars depending on how much you shop online.

First step is to sign up with an affiliate site, I have linked to a couple of them below:

Linkshare - LinkShare Corporation

Commission Junction - CJ.com

After signing up with one or more of these program you can go through their list of available stores that offer commissions on referral purchases and sign up to join their programs. Once approved you can then go through and place links on your site to stores you frequently shop at. Then instead of going straight to the store site, you would use the link from your blog or website to get to the site. Since you used the link from your site should get commission on your purchase.

In addition to your own purchases you might get lucky and someone else might use the links to make a purchase and you will get commission from their purchase also. I have made a separate shopping page for all the shops we frequent and some others that approved us.

If you don’t see your favorite stores when you signup for the above programs you can look on the bottom of the individual store sites for ” affilates ” or ” partner program ” links.  These will take you to their affiliate program page and you can sign up there.

Christmas Exchanges

Saturday, January 26th, 2008

I finally got to Best Buy to return the Christmas gift I got from the Queen, she got me a HD antenna for my laptop so I could watch the Cubs game while I was at work next season. Although its a great gift it was not very practical and I had read some mixed reviews on the product she had bought me.

The return total was $111 and change, they gave me a gift card and off into the store to look for something else. I already had a pretty good idea on what I was going to get so it was to the movie isles to see what they had. Here is what I picked up, in no special order:

War

Shoot’em Up

Live Free or Die Harder

Saw IV

Good Luck Chuck - Had to get it, it has my girl Jessica Alba in it

American Pie Beta House - I have all the other American Pie movies so I had to get this one too. It is really funny, if you like this sort of movie.

I am not much of a movie reviewer but maybe I will post some movie reviews after I watch these.
