Death strikes again!

Back in February I had gotten a call from my ex-sister-in-law stating that her mother was in the hospital and that she was gravely sick. I was back and forth for 4 weeks deciding if I should send my older two kids to see their grandmother. Of course the King said that was no longer my responsibility to flip the bill for such a trip. My ex took off without a thought of his kids, in a way I could understand (after all this is his mother) but had this been me in this position I would have taken my kids along. Good news, my ex- mother-in-law got better enough to go home. Still I felt that even though she was home now the kids should at least go and see her, so I waited to see if the ex (AKA asswipe) would take his kids to see their grandmother. Well that never happened. This past Monday I got a call from my ex-SIL stating that her mother was once again in the hospital and this time the doctors were saying that it wasn’t looking good (they said the same thing in February and gave her little hope of surviving then). She called me on Thursday morning just to report that her mother was still the same. It was then that I said that I had to send my kids to California they had to see her, this may be the last time. She told me to hold on (like she did in February) and this time I said no, something is telling me I have to send them now. Before I could make phone calls regarding plane fares my ex-SIL called me back telling me that her mother got worse and that the doctors did not think she would make it through the night. I made a call to a friend and thanks to Susan I was able to get tickets for the kids, only problem was that they had to wait till Friday morning (7:46am).  I prayed that my ex-MIL held on until my babies got to see her for the last time. Last I had heard on Thursday was that my ex-MIL last opened her eyes at noon, so my theory was that she was now in a coma. I got the kids off (sadly) and was glad that they got to the hospital and told her that they were there to see her. I strongly feel that she waited for the kids (and her son) to get there because my ex-MIL past away last night. I am glad that I decided to send them but I regret that I didn’t send them sooner so that they would have been able to see her at home instead of seeing her in a coma at the hospital. Even though I am no longer part of that family I never wished her ill will and always respected her. I had many good times with her and her family and I will miss her dearly.

My God grant her eternal rest and may God help the family through their grief.

Day 1 with the garage sale

Family No Comments »

Well the day started out with drizzle, I was praying that there was no rain. The weather forecast said no rain but it did. So at around 7:30 we started putting out stuff on tables the sale started at 8, and we got our first customer at 8:20. The sale wasn’t as bad as I thought, it could have been worse. So far we made $300.00 which isn’t bad, but we still have tons of crap left. I am hoping to sell more (much more) tomorrow. I did have one item stolen which really pissed me off. The boy had a DVD movie brand new to sell (never opened) for $1.00, a lady came up to me with the box and showed me that someone had cut the tape with what it looked like a key to open the box and take the DVD out of the box. I cannot believe that someone would stoop that low and do something like that, and for $1.00!! This is why I tell my kids that I hate having garage sales, there are people who thrive to steal what they can at garage sales, then you have the ones who constantly want to bargin you down to practically nothing. URGH!!!! So one more day to go. And the saga continues..

Garage Sale, YUK!!

Family 3 Comments »

Well I love going to garage sales but I hate having them.  I always seem to have a bad experience with them.  The first one I had  was at our first house, I had tons to sell. Now of course my first time having one I had no clue how to price stuff (you live and learn).  I remember having a tea kettle that I never used it was given to me by a friend. So I had put $1.00, yes one dollar. This little old man comes up to me and asks “can I give you .50 cents for it?” I looked at him and said “Well it does have a sticker that says $1.00 on it”. His reply, (are you ready for this) “well it is used ya know”.  NO SHIT SHERLOCK!! THAT’S WHY PEOPLE HAVE GARAGE/YARD SALES, TO GET RID OF “USED” ITEMS. So nice person that I can be at times I sold the damn thing to him for .50 cents.  Next come my people, yes Mexicans, people tend to think I am white because I am light complected and the majority of Mexicans have that nice tan look, so I love to play the “white” roll at times. So here comes a small car with about 5 adults and 4 kids, (seriously) and they are lookling around and the elder man is all excited because we had a color tv set for only $10.00, it was an 19 inch and he said he wanted it, of course he thinks he needs a translator so I was asked if it worked, I said yes it does and feel free to plug it in to make sure. Poor old man carried it himself into my garage to plug it in, in the mean time the younger man tells his wife in spanish, look at this phone it is for a double line and it is only $5.00, (the king had paid over $100.00 and at this point it worked kind of funny so we priced it at $5.00). So back to the old man, he yells out that the tv works and that it looks like the one he had before, and so he wants it. The woman that he was with asked me if it came with a remote, I said no, then she asked if I would sell it for……….. are you ready for this?  $7.00! I was shocked that she would ask, for petesake the tag said $10.00!! I said no, so she got mad the old man said” hey that’s ok I still want it”. He pulled out $10.00 and carried the tv to the car. What a sweet man. Well the people bought some stuff, but at the end of the day when I was putting the stuff back into the garage for the next day I noticed that my phone was gone, I know for a fact that no one bought it. Oh was I pissed!! That bitch was mad because I wouldn;t come down on the price of the tv so she stole my phone.

The next day I had another Mexican family come to the sale. Again I play dumb to what they are saying in Spanish.  You can tell that the man was the one who gave the orders in the house, very old fashioned. The woman had seen a few things she liked and he says to her “Oh you don;t need that” so she would put it back and look some more. She saw  a watch that my daughter had out there to sell, I think we had $3.00 on it, the only thing that it needed was a battery, if this man bought it he would still come out ahead because the watch was over $50.00, so of course he says I will give you .50 cents for it. I said no, sorry. My daughter also had a pack of playing cards with the White Sox logo on them, she put .30 cents on the sticker and this moron wanted to give her .10 cents for them, I told him that my daughter was not here and that she wants .30 cents (WTF! If you don’t have 30 cents then dont go to garage sales!!!) So this guy buys some stuff and goes next door to my neighbor who is also having a yard sale, I walk over there and ask how her sale is going and whisper to her not to go down on her prices for him, I think he saw me walk away because he came back to my garage picked up the box of cards and said again to me that he would give me 10 cents for them, again I say no, so it looked like he was going to put them back on the table and when he walks away the king goes and picks the box up, counts the cards and notices that the bastard took 2 cards from the deck!!  OMG!! I could not believe that my own people would stoop that low!! He was pissed that I wouldn’t sell them at “his” price so he figured if he couldn’t have them no one could

I swore I would never have another yard sale again, period! Well last year my son wanted a new bike, now there was nothing wrong with the bike his father gave him except that when he gave it to him it had a torn seat, he promised the kid he would get  him a new seat but never did, and although there are Mexicans that live in our area, we are still out beat by the white folk, no big deal to me or my kids except when my sons friends were making fun of him because he was riding a “low rider” bike, so he decided he was going to buy a new one, so he had asked if he could have a garage sale. I said sure after he begged me for weeks, then kept after me to go around the house to find things he could sell. So here I am the day of his sale, sitting out there with him, this time it was a better sale, even though there were people that wanted to pay less for things, but I got wiser and priced it a little high so when I came down in price it was exactly what I wanted for the stuff. He did ok, he made a little over $100.00 and was able to get a new bike.  Still I didn’t want to go through this again, but once again here I am, a year later with tons of stuff to get rid of. Sure I could just ship it off to  AMVETS (like the King had suggested) but with me not working, every penny I get will help with bills. Of course my son wants his cut of the proceeds, lol. he doesn’t have much to sell this time but he is still trying to sell his low rider bike (In Chicago he would probably be shot to get that bike) so we’ll see if he will be able to get rid of it tomorrow. The sale is for 2 days, as long as it doesn’t rain. I just finished pricing some more things, and decided to write about it. I sure hope I don’t have to go postal on some of these people, I mean come on if you really want the item you should pay the price the person is asking for.  I have never ever asked a person to come down in price, sure there are things that I felt could have been priced cheaper when I go to sales but if I really want it then I will pay the amount on the tag.  Wish me luck! I know I am going to need it, that and a couple of Margaritas!! lol, I’ll keep all of you posted.

Memories

My son always wants me to watch movies with him, and seeing that I am not working I have been hanging out with him once all of the other kids are in bed.  Last night he decided that he wanted to watch my wedding video.  Of course I said sure, it’s been a long time since I watched it. And we had a good time laughing at how small he and his sister were at the time, the big one actually joined us and we had a good time looking back 9 years ago. Of course it was sad too because 5 relatives have since past away so to see them again, laughing, dancing and having a good time was a little hard, but just knowing that they were having a good time made me feel good.  I kept telling the boy however to keep his laughing to a minimal because it was late and the King was sleeping, I didn’t want him to be woken up, but all in all the three of us had a good time last night watching my memory, the day I married my friend, God has truly blessed me with a wonderful man that I can love and live the rest of my life with. Once the video was over we realized that it was 2am, so we just left the videos out (which is a big big no no, I always make the kids put the movies away when they are done with them) and now this morning the girls got a hold of them and are watching them in awe. Lauryn said that she wants to watch them again tonight with popcorn, lol. Right now they are dancing with the video and laughing, saying hi to mommy and daddy, grandma and grandpa. It makes me feel real good that all of my kids wanted to watch the video. One thing that cracks me up is that all four of them kept saying “ew, yuk, or get a room” when the King and I would kiss. The video makes me want to have a big party again! And it got the big one thinking of when she gets married, GOD I dread that day, I really do. She is my first born and I don’t know if I will be able to let go.  Both of the kids said that they want a big wedding, which is good I guess, that is the only time you get to see family. I just hope that when the day comes for all of my children to get married that they find the right person to fall in love with, just like I did….. with the King.

Me, a MILF? LOL I don’t think so!

When I think of a MILF I think of these “Barbie” looking mothers, I hear the radio stations talking about MILF’S all the time and the descriptions they give are far from what I look like. However I have been told other wise. Here is my story: Two years ago my eldest daughter and her girlfriends wanted to go to Six Flags Great America, so being the nice parent that I am I told her that I would take them. However I found out that the park district was going and so I figured what the heck lets go with them so that way I do not have to drive, so all the girls agreed, there was my daughter her two friends and myself along with four other kids and the driver. It so happens that three of the other kids went to school with my daughter, so of course the girls were like “oh hell no, these three are not going in the same van”! Not that they disliked each other but they did not want to “hang out” with them either. Two of these people live one block from us, so I know these guys. As the driver begins our journey one of these “boys” ( a senior in high school at the time) yells to my daughter (who is sitting next to me at the back of the van) “hey Missy, I am mad at you.”  and she replies “why?” He replies back, “you could have brought your mother along ya know I think she is hot.” OMG! I wanted to crawl out of the window! This kid did not just say that! The van went silent for what seemed like forever, then the girls started laughing, and Missy says, “dude! My mom is sitting next to me!”. Of course we cannot see if he turned red because he is African American, but he turns to see if she is lying and realizes that I am in fact in the van, he smiles and says hi to me. CREEPY!!! So the girls every now and then would tease me about this kid being my boyfriend. Well my boy who was 10 two years ago use to go to this guys house to see if he would come over to play X-box games with him, (my son doesn’t care how old you are if you are interested in playing with him he is excited). So this guy would come over from time to time, they go in the basement and play for hours. Missy would get mad because he would always tell her in school that her mother is hot, and she would just cringe. However last night made me write about this topic. I was watching TV with my son and we were talking about different things, when all of a sudden he says, “Ya know mom, I don’t go by Nick’s house anymore, you wanna know why?” I figured the guy went off to college, so I said “he went back to school?” My boy says “oh I don’t know about that but the last two times he was here he kept telling me boy your mom is hot, she really is hot you know.” The expression on my sons face was priceless! He had this serious look on his face too. I couldn’t help but laugh and then he says, “man mom that guy has issues, he is sick really sick mom. I had to laugh more, my son had the cutest expression on his face, so innocent. Missy has made comments to me before that other guy friends tell her that I am good looking, that makes me want to move far away seriously it makes me feel uncomfortable.  Perhaps if I were 15-20 pounds lighter with a face lift and a boob job maybe just maybe I would consider myself a MILF, but there is no way I would say that about myself now, and I think the MILF’S out there would agree with me.
