Me a Soccer Coach? I don’t think so!

Family 4 Comments »

This is funny because Monday night I went out for my monthly dinner date with my cousin K and she was telling me that her hubby was asked to be a soccer coach, now all I can see this guy coaching would be either baseball or hockey, but not soccer. I was impressed however when she proceeded to tell me that he went on the internet and looked up information that he would need in order to be a good coach, kudos to T! Well yesterday I had gone to the park district to see if I could still sign up the boy for either soccer or flag football. Soccer was all booked up but flag football still had some openings, cool because the boy played soccer in the Spring so for the Fall I wanted him playing football. So I go ahead and sign him up. Well I had the twins with me and the oldest of the two tells me that she wants to play soccer, so I asked if there were any openings for her and the lady informed me that she didn’t think so but to go ahead and fill out the form and if there was an opening they would call me. I am not even back in my house two minutes when I get a call and it is the sports coordinator telling me that there was an opening for L, but he proceeds to tell me that there is no coach yet and if I were interested. LOL, I told him that I don’t know anything about soccer except the fact that you have to kick the ball into the goal to score and that you have to pass it to your team mates in order to try and score. He mentions that these are only 5 year olds so that is all I need to tell them to do. NO WAY!! I told him thanks for the offer but I couldn’t because not only do I not know about soccer but I also have a hand full of kids at home and I just wouldn’t be able to commit. He tried to convince me for another 10 minutes but I think he heard my tone changing a bit, so he asked if I could help him out by just calling the parents to let them know that Friday’s were going to be practice days and then to ask them if they would like to volunteer to be the coach. If we couldn’t find someone then the team would be split into the other teams with coaches, so chances of our kids playing would be minimal. So here I go, I pack the girls in the van to go and look for the field house. I had no idea where I was going but I had to go and get the roster. I had the pleasure meeting the guy I spoke to on the phone, I then remind him that I will not be coach and that I am helping him out and that it is temporary. I get the roster plus a bag of soccer balls and jerseys. On my way to the van I am saying to myself ” I will NOT be the coach, I will NOT be the coach”.

Karate started last night for the boy so I took him to that, the girls wanted to tag along so I took them as well, the practice was outside near a park so the girls were playing on the swings and slides while I made my phone calls to these parents. I sounded so gay I wanted to puke, lol. “Hi, can I please speak to ____? Hi_____ my name is R and I am one of the soccer moms for _____ team, I am calling to let you know that practice starts this Friday at 5:30- 6:30, also just to let you know we still do not have a coach for our team. Is there a chance that either you or your spouse would be interested in coaching the team?”. YUK! GAG ME!! LOL. Well I am proud to say that I did indeed find a coach, even though my MIL, my DH, and my mother all said that I was suckered into this and therefore would be the coach. I told them all never underestimate me, when I say I am not doing it, then damnit I am not doing it. So I will enjoy taking my little one to practice and then watching her play on Saturdays. It is a good thing that soccer is on Saturdays because flag football is on Sundays, I can enjoy watching both my kids play sports.

Finally a Good Country Song

Well I read my cousins blog today and what other bloggers have decided to do was to make Friday’s a count your blessing day! Great idea seeing that I have been down in the dumps lately.  So here goes my list :)

I am blessed to be alive today at the young age of 43

I am blessed to have had wonderful grandparents who showed me what love is all about

I am blessed to have such a wonderful and understanding husband (even though he ticked me off yesterday)

I am blessed to have four healthy/ wonderful children that are all officially in school

I am blessed to be able to raise my brother’s children and try to install in them good values in life.

Even though I am still unemployed I am blessed to be able to collect unemployment, there are many people out there that are not fortunate enough to be able to collect unemployment.

I am blessed to have the in-laws that I have, yes at times they drive me crazy, but all in all they are wonderful people.

Thank you Lord for giving me such a wonderful life.

Shit, Shit, Shit!!

I took my kids to get gym shoes for school, they need a pair that stays at school for when they have PE. My daughter L had mentioned (once I had already bought the shoes) that she doesn’t know how to tie them. Can you believe that we had gotten so used to buying the kids shoes with velcro that it didn’t dawn on me that I had yet to teach my girls how to tie shoes. So here I go back to the store to buy velcro gym shoes for gym, all the while keeping the tie ones for home, those they can use when they go out to play. So I started almost immediately showing them how to tie shoe strings. R always get frustrated if she doesn’t pick up quickly so I have to spend more time with her. L caught on after about two hours of trying and trying. She is the one who is more determined to learn and learn fast. But as I was at Payless Shoe Store they had one of their sales, buy one and get one half price. Excellent! Just what I needed, thank you GOD. So I get the girls their shoes, go around to the boys section to pick up a pair for the boy, well not much of a selection for him so I looked for my foster son and found a pair for him, so now I said to myself, “gee all I need is to find another pair of shoes to get them half price. So I go to see what they have in my size, not that I need another pair of shoes but I figured what the heck, doesn’t hurt to look. Well those of you who know me know that I love stilettos shoes. I was in fact looking for gym shoes, no such luck. However………… I found a pair of black stiletto boots! One pair in my size, black and with my high heel, best part…….. they were already on sale from $44.99 to $9.00, which means I paid $4.50. $4.50!!!!!!!!! I have never seen such a great sale like this at Payless! I tell the boy who was just as excited as I was (which was cute) he kept saying “you gotta buy them mom, you gotta buy them”. Once again I don’t need them, I have three pair at home, but of course not this style :) So yes I bought them and I am sooooooo excited. This is my type of shopping, now if I can only find sales like this for kids clothing.
