Run You Got 10 Seconds to Punch In
Our company has an attendance policy where you accumulate points for being late or calling off sick, get 7 points and you are out the door. Call in sick get 1 point, come in 2 minutes late get 1/4 point, up to 1 hour 1/2 point, anything more get a full point.
Every freaking day we have the same few people to come running through the door trying to log into their phones so they are not late.
First of all how the hell do they time it so well that they pull into the parking lot 1 or 2 minutes before they start work. These people do not live close, they all live 30+ minutes away. When they are late they blame traffic. I have an answer for them. GET OUT OF BED EARLIER!!! One guy started bitching to me about it and just said ” nevermind you are on their side “.
Its not that I am on managements side because I am not, because I think that if you are 2 minutes late you should not be punished for it. Traffic can get anyone from time to time, but when you are late EVERY DAY, you might wanna consider getting up a bit earlier.
I start at 6am, it takes me 1 hour to get to work in the morning so I leave at 4:30am just to be sure I get here in time. I give me myself 30 extra minutes each day just in case there is traffic.
In the 6 years I have been here I have only seen 2 people get fired for anything other than attendance issues. And there have been some people who were so bad at their jobs they needed to get fired but they showed up on time, so all was well. On the other hand we have had some really good people get fired because they got 7 points and just had to go.
We don’t have to like the rules, we just have to live by them. If people wouldn’t abuse the rules they wouldn’t have to put the rule in place to begin with.

Our company runs on the points system too - well, all of the hourly employees do. Same thing - it applies to those who they want to get rid of. Those who are “golden” are also the ones who miss the most days and yet, the points don’t apply to them. It’s ridiculous. I’m the one in charge of tracking the points and I don’t even know why I bother - they only use is when they want to get rid of someone. Backasswards

Really? A point system. That seems kind of lame. I agree with you about getting up earlier if you’re always late. I worked with a girl who always arrived at work at 8:05. For some reason she could never get there at exactly 8. I use to be on time or early for everything until I met my husband who is habitually late and now it’s rubbed off on me. I find myself rushing to get somewhere where in the past I would have had time to spare!
